Restaurants can be found all around the city centre. At the end of our walking tours we can give you some advice about where to go for dinner. Below we already show you some of our favourite restaurants in Leeuwarden. You can also find them on our map.
The Leeuwarden Lounge is an Afghan tapas restaurant. It’s not the restaurant where you go for a quick dinner. You go to the Leeuwarden Lounge to forget about time, talk to your friends and relax. They’ve got a few comfortable lounge sofa’s which are perfect for that, but it is also possible to sit on a normal table and chair. Here you can choose between all the different tapas they offer. If you don´t really know what to choose, you can also order their menu and let yourself be surprised. You will get 6 tapas courses for only 15 Euro. You can also head here to lounge with your friends and just have a drink. To finish off in eastern atmosphere’s you can order a Sisha. Location: Korfmakersstraat 13, Phone: 058 843 4055
Thai by Jai is a Thai restaurant in Leeuwarden. The friendly host likes to chat and takes the time to do so. Chef Jai buys his own ingredients. To the dismay of the market vendors and bystanders, he always tastes the hot peppers on the Leeuwarden market – because oh woe if they are not sharp enough! Do order the laab with your main course – that completes the experience. Location: Nieuwestad 3,phone: 058 737 0124
Eindeloos might not look like this from the outside, but it’s one of the best restaurants of Leeuwarden. They don’t have a menu here, you can say what you don’t like and how many courses you’d like to have. Everything afterwards is a surprise in the hands of chef cook Willem Schaafsma. He likes to work with locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Location: Korfmakersstraat 17, Open: Tue-Sat: 18:00 – late, Tel: 058 2130835
Grand Café Post Plaza is located in the old post office of Leeuwarden. A wonderful atmosphere to have something to eat or drink. A well-arranged menu with good food that is served on one plate, without frills, because the taste is the most important. The service here is also very friendly. You can also stop here for a cup of coffee or a drink. Do you fancy a beer? Then try their house beer Tsjoch, which is made with rusk. Because they are located at the Tweebaksmarkt (old dutch word for rusk). Location: Tweebaksmarkt 27, phone: 058 215 9317
At Restaurant Proefverlof you can dine in the old prison, the Blokhuispoort. The thick wall has been largely replaced on one side by a large glass wall, so that you always have a view of the water. When the weather is nice, you can also sit on the beautiful terrace by the water. The food is sourced locally and the service is always very service-oriented.
