In de Brouwerij is new but is located in a very beautiful historic building that they have restored very nicely. Besides their home-brewed beer, you can also come here for breakfast, lunch, dinner and at the weekend for live music until the wee hours! Thai by Jai is a Thai restaurant in Leeuwarden. The friendly host likes to chat and takes the time to do so. Chef Jai buys his own ingredients. To the dismay of the market vendors and bystanders, he always tastes the hot peppers on the Leeuwarden market – because oh woe if they are not sharp enough! The Leeuwarden Lounge is an Afghan tapas restaurant. It’s not the restaurant where you go for a quick dinner. You go to the Leeuwarden Lounge to forget about time, talk to your friends and relax. They’ve got a few comfortable lounge sofa’s which are perfect for that, but it is also possible to sit on a normal table and chair. Here you can choose between all the different tapas they offer. If you don´t really know what to choose, you can also order their menu and let yourself be surprised. You will get 6 tapas courses for only 15 Euro. TOTT Leeuwarden is a small restaurant in the Grote Hoogstraat where you can eat various indonesian saté dishes. They are prepared on a charcoal grill. They also have vegetarian and fish options. Location: Grote Hoogstraat 30, tel: +3158 289 8192

Eetcafe Spinoza is a cosy restaurant in a beautiful historical building. Next to their choices of meat and fish, they are known for their excellent vegetarian and vegan options. Behind the buildind you can also dine in their garden. Location: Eewal 50-52, Phone: 058 2129393

Eindeloos might not look like this from the outside, but it’s one of the best restaurants of Leeuwarden. They don’t have a menu here, you can say what you don’t like and how many courses you’d like to have. Everything afterwards is a surprise in the hands of chef cook Willem Schaafsma. Grand Café Post Plaza is located in the old post office of Leeuwarden. A wonderful atmosphere to have something to eat or drink. A well-arranged menu with good food that is served on one plate, without frills, because the taste is the most important. The service here is also very friendly. You can also stop here for a cup of coffee or a drink. Do you fancy a beer? Then try their house beer Tsjoch, which is made with rusk. At Restaurant Proefverlof you can dine in the old prison, the Blokhuispoort. The thick wall has been largely replaced on one side by a large glass wall, so that you always have a view of the water. When the weather is nice, you can also sit on the beautiful terrace by the water. The food is sourced locally and the service is always very service-oriented.
