1. Grand Café Post Plaza
Located in the old post office of Leeuwarden. A wonderful atmosphere to have something to eat or drink. A well-arranged menu with good food that is served on one plate, without frills, because the taste is the most important. The service here is also very friendly. You can also stop here for a cup of coffee or a drink. Do you fancy a beer? Then try their house beer Tsjoch, which is made with rusk. 2. Restaurant Proefverlof
You can lunch or dine Leeuwarden in an old prison; the Blokhuispoort. The thick wall has been largely replaced on one side by a large glass wall, so that you always have a view of the water. When the weather is nice, you can also sit on the beautiful terrace by the water. The food is sourced locally and the service is always very service-oriented. 3. Bowls ‘n Rolls
has delicious poke bowls where you can choose all the ingredients yourself or try one of their delicious otions from their menucart. Also the only restaurant in Leeuwarden where you can sit on a swing while eating. Address: Groentemarkt 1, Open: Tuesday – Sunday 11:00-21:00
4. Pizzeria Pompeï
Pizzeria Pompeï has been a household name in Leeuwarden for over 40 years. They make the most delicious Neapolitan pizzas in town. These are pizzas with soft, thin dough and high edges. With over 200 seats, this is also a great place to visit with a group. And they are open 7 days a week! Location: Groentemarkt 7, Phone: 058 212 4092
5. Eetcafe Spinoza
A cosy restaurant in a beautiful historical building to dine in Leeuwarden. Next to their choices of meat and fish, they are known for their excellent vegetarian and vegan options. Behind the buildind you can also dine in their garden. Location: Eewal 50-52, Phone: 058 2129393
6. TOTT Leeuwarden
Due to a fire next door, they are temporarily closed. They will re-open in april. – A small restaurant in the Grote Hoogstraat where you can eat various indonesian saté dishes. They are prepared on a charcoal grill. They also have vegetarian and fish options. Location: Grote Hoogstraat 13, tel: +3158 289 8192
7. Jamuna
This is the Indian restaurant in Leeuwarden. Where you can take a little trip to India. The staff also speak English. The food is simply delicious. Although they have 60 seats, it is almost always full. This means you sometimes have to wait a little longer for your food, but it’s worth it. Reservations are recommended and can only be made by telephone. Location: Weerd 26-28, Phone: 058 213 1435
8. Thai by Jai
The Thai restaurant in Leeuwarden. The friendly host likes to chat and takes the time to do so. Chef Jai buys his own ingredients. To the dismay of the market vendors and bystanders, he always tastes the hot peppers on the Leeuwarden market – because oh woe if they are not sharp enough! 9. Bistro Duinkerken
A relaxed evening of good food in a cosy atmosphere. No stress about choosing, just pick between fish, meat or seasonal vegetarian options. Everything is freshly prepared with local ingredients.
You can take a peek into the open kitchen or, when the weather is warm, take a seat in the beautiful courtyard garden.

10. Eindeloos
This is one of the best restaurants of Leeuwarden. They don’t have a menu here, you can say what you don’t like and how many courses you’d like to have. Everything afterwards is a surprise in the hands of chef cook Willem Schaafsma. He likes to work with locally sourced seasonal ingredients. 11. Wannee
The restaurant of the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. It is run by students studying Hotel Management who serve top-notch dishes.
